Auxiliary deputies

The Office of the Sheriff for Queen Anne’s County needs volunteers to expand their Auxiliary Deputy Unit.

The program requires a commitment of 16 hours monthly, mainly on the weekends.

Auxiliary Deputies have no arrest or police powers, but are involved in many of the same assignments as paid deputies. Uniforms and equipment are provided.

Major responsibilities include crowd control at events, traffic surveys, traffic control, mobilizing speed trailers and checkpoints.

All applicants must be drug free, have no criminal record, have a good driving record, possess a high school diploma or GED, and pass an extensive background check.

For information or to pick up an application, stop by the Sheriff’s office at 505 Railroad Ave. in Centreville.

Citizens Corps

The Citizens Corps Council in Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis works to make the area safer, stronger and better prepared. The Council focuses on all hazards, emergency preparedness and public safety.

Docents committee

The proposed Maryland Theatre for the Performing Arts in the Park Place complex is forming a docents committee to represent the theatre in its official office space, which is scheduled to open in several weeks.

Leadership volunteers

Leadership Anne Arundel needs volunteers ages 19 and older to help with office work on a part time basis.

OHLA volunteers

The Organization of Hispanics/Latin Americans of Anne Arundel County needs volunteers to serve as outreach coordinators to help bridge existing gaps in areas such as health, jobs and other services; bi-lingual volunteers staff the Annapolis office.

Volunteers must be 18 and older and some computer skills are preferred.

A bilingual licensed clinical social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist is also needed
